Confirmed: Amazon Web Services (AWS) and VMware have announced a strategic alliance which will be a new hybrid cloud service called ‘VMware Cloud on AWS’. It will give customers a full software-defined data centre (SDCC) experience.
Services will run on AWS bare metal infrastructure, while the SDDC side will come from VMware Cloud Foundation, including VMware vSphere, VMware Virtual SAN, as well as NSX virtualisation technologies. Expected to be available from ‘mid 2017’ onwards, and will be sold by VMware as an on-demand, elastically scalable service.
The companies said pricing information would be made available closer to availability date.
